Robert Catalano passed away on April 23 with his best friend and true love, Chris Jennings, at his side. He was 69 years old. Robert and Chris were a talented musical duo; they played guitar and created beautifully harmonized vocals. They lived a contented life together. Robert, a Bronze Star and Purple Heart decorated Vietnam War veteran, was a man of many talents and experiences. Before becoming a licensed family therapist he worked with the National Park Service in Yellowstone, as a US Forest Service fire jumper, and at various other occupations during his travels around the world. More recently he finally found a place that he called home, Butte Creek Canyon. There he made many friends and was an active community leader. He ably served as president of both the Centerville Recreation and Historical Association and the Honey Run Covered Bridge Association. He was instrumental in transferring ownership of the Bridge from Butte County to the nonprofit Honey Run Covered Bridge Association. He led fund-raising efforts to rebuild the covered bridge after its destruction in the 2018 Camp Fire and oversaw Phase 1 of the rebuild. He was also one of the lead authors of the Butte Creek Canyon Overlay, which updated zoning of the canyon. Robert’s keen wit, insightful commentary, astounding memory, and good company is greatly missed by many. Happy trails, old friend.
